Domestic violence is a serious issue affecting Arkansas Women, children and families.

Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence LogoThere are approximately 32 shelters serving 75 counties in Arkansas. These shelters struggle on a daily basis to provide services to assist victims of domestic violence and to literally save lives. In the past 10 years, Arkansas ranked on an average of 9th nationally for domestic homicide per capita; ranking as high as 3rd for 2 years and 1st in deaths of African American women in 2002.

Arkansas is lacking in continuous state financial support of domestic violence services in comparison with neighboring states. Arkansas shelters struggle to maintain basic services, shelter and safety of domestic violence victims and their children.

State and federal domestic violence funding provides about 57% of the total funding needed to operate the current domestic violence shelters across the state. The shelters must look for 43% of their funding, approximately $3,223,236. Resources for small and rural communities are lacking or non-existence at best.

The mission of the Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence is to eliminate personal and institutional violence against women and their children through programs providing support and safety to battered women and their children, direct services, public information and education, systems advocacy and social change activities. The members of ACADV work toward this goal through supportive, cooperative practices in all aspects of our individual programs and collective efforts.
